Major John Desmond Park, more commonly known as Audubon Park just finished with the first phase of renovations, as the dilapidated tennis courts were replaced with a high-performance athletic surface that supports a variety of activities – including futsal.
The new multi-use futsal court is a custom-engineered modular surface that provides the best traction, ball bounce, and shock absorption in the industry. Built with Sport Court’s newest surface, PowerGame+, the court reduces the likelihood of slipping, delivers the same dribbling response as a hardwood floor, and provides the best protection against abrasion of any outdoor court surface on the market.
The upgrade – along with a new basketball court – was completed in part with SportProsUSA, the local Sport Court dealer and sports construction company. Designed to be low maintenance, the courts provide a multi-use area that encourages neighborhood kids to play a multitude of sports.
Futsal is an exciting, fast-paced small sided soccer game that is played across the world and is officially recognized by both FIFA and EUFA. Futsal places a large emphasis on technical skill in high pressure situations which can be translated into the outdoor game. The sport is a great skill developer as it demands quick reflexes, fast thinking and pinpoint passing.
According to NJ.com, the $500,000 park upgrade also includes a restoration of the park’s war memorial, a redesign of the playground, and the installation of a new basketball court. New LED Lighting will also be installed in the park, while more trees will be planted and fences repaired.
